Birk is the Storyteller from Balincia and nephew to the witches of Chaos and Order. One night, after a performance celebrating his aunts, a cloaked stranger approaches him with a magic book, which cracks an enchantment in his mind. He’s about to learn the world he knows isn’t what it seems and is much larger than he could ever imagine. Setting off on an epic quest to reveal his aunt’s secret past, Birk quickly learns there is a high cost for uncovering the truth.
Zara
Zara
Zara is the Princess of Ironspire, Driftstone’s largest and most innovative city. Daughter to the Witch of Innovation, Zara only wants to be seen by her mother and make a difference in the repressed lives of her citizens. With the Magic-Born under attack and her mother’s conspiracy theories spiraling out of control, the “Princess of the People” may be the only one capable of saving Ironspire from a dark prophetic vision.
Grey
Grey
Grey never wanted the attention of being the last descendant of the Protector, but when his village comes under attack from dark, shape-shifting creatures known as arcanivores, he has no choice but to pick up his ancestor’s legacy to protect the lives of those he loves. While on his hunt, fate delivers a red-headed Storyteller to him, and Grey’s instincts tell him their destinies are intertwined.
Brynn
Brynn
Grey’s feisty and impetuous younger sister, Brynn, refuses to be left out. Unlike her brother, she embraces her powers and connection to the Protector and is eager to show the world what she can do.
Thalon
Thalon
Thalon is the pretentious son of the Elven Witch, Faunwood, who rules the Living Forest. Forcing himself into Birk’s quest, he slowly reveals he’s hiding layers of knowledge surrounding Driftstone’s past and secrets about himself. Thalon may hold the key to victory if his companions can look past his abrasive exterior and find a way to work with him.
Brunt and Winter
Brunt and Winter
The last of the Familiars, Brunt, a giant grizzly bear, and Winter, an enormous white wolf, are Grey and Brynn’s companions. Loyal protectors, they still carry the essence of the long-lost Protector, and his hidden mission unknown to his descendants.
Talbot
Talbot
Captain of the Royal Guardians in Balincia, Talbot is also Birk’s adoptive father figure. He’s a secret keeper of Balincia’s past and the witches who rule it.
Shayvonne
Shayvonne
Foster mother to Brynn and Grey, she took the children in when their parents were killed by a tribe of Free Roamers cleansing the land of Magic-Born. Attempting to make up for her past mistakes, Shayvonne is a historical scholar and the maternal driving force behind the next generation of witches.
Indigo
Indigo
The child of Kodalt, Captain of the Azure, Indigo, chopped their hair and refused to be held back by the gendered biases of men. Known simply as the Warrior, they are a Champion in the arena and Ironspire’s most respected member of the Azure.
Ravenshire
Ravenshire
Ravenshire is Birk’s childhood friend and a soldier in the Royal Guardians of Balincia. When Birk’s world turns upside down, Ravenshire starts questioning a Non-Magic Born’s place in a land of witches and magical races far more powerful than humans.
Xavier
Xavier
Xavier is the Chief Falconer for Balincia and an expert marksman.
When the witches require volunteers for a search and rescue party outside Balincia’s borders, Xavier steps up to enlist in this elite group of soldiers.
Biddy
Biddy
Biddy is the first dwarf to compete in the Azure Trials in hopes of securing his mum a home in Ironspire. Using his sense of humor and indomitable spirit, he hopes to win the hearts of Ironspire’s judges in the competition.
Hyacinth
Hyacinth
Hyacinth is one of the many exiled elves who lives in the encampments outside of Ironspire. Growing up beside Biddy and Packington, she is competing with her friends in the Azure Trials in an attempt to help her family secure a spot in Ironspire’s elite housing facility. She is an expert marksman and helps to serve as a mediator between her friends.
Packington
Packington
Packington is a favored candidate upon entering the Azure Trials. Despite his childhood friendship with Biddy and Hyacinth, his singular focus is to win the competition and ensure he is on the winning team, no matter the cost. Standing taller than all the rest, Packington is a feared competitor but maintains respect for the ways of the Azure.
Vincent
Vincent
Vincent is Lady Ironspire’s Royal Advisor and a real “prick of the needle.” Slimy, ambitious, and condescending, he is constantly scheming and attempting to drive a wedge between Sable and her daughter, Zara, the Princess of Ironspire.
Porticia
Porticia
Porticia Prombey, aka “the Cluckmaster,” is one of Balincia’s more colorful characters. Serving as the township leader for the Isle of Poultry, she spends most of her days managing flocks of loud fowl. Obsessed with Edi, she is consistently trying to emulate her fashion choices and gain the Witch’s favor.
Marina
Marina
Marina is one of the most respected township leaders, due to her tight governance over the fishing and shipping borderlands. Strategic and disciplined, she has even caught the eye of Talbot as a potential successor for his role in the Royal Guardians.
Lars
Lars
Lars leads the second largest township in Balincia, in charge of procuring all of the land’s lumber. Living at the edge of the dense forest, his community are furniture artisans, builders, and hunters. He is one of the more outspoken leaders, who is often aligned with Marina.
Beatrix
Beatrix
Beatrix is the soft-spoken township leader from the Isle of Honey. While a small township, the isle produces honey not just for consumption, but it is a vital component to many of the medicinal products created by Pan and the township healers. Small, but mighty, Beatrix proves one does not need to be loud to be heard.
Samuel
Samuel
One of the oldest township leaders, Samuel governs the farming and husbandry borderlands. An Edi loyalist, and a traditionalist, he often finds himself at odds with the younger township leaders.
Saffrona
Saffrona
Saffrona serves as Edi’s prized Royal Chef, in the Palace of Order. One of Edi’s older and longest serving staff members, she is seen as a maternal figure to many of the younger staff. Standing over 7 feet, she is Balincia’s tallest citizen, and delights in defying assumptions about her capability as a culinary master.
Kodalt
Kodalt
Kodalt is Captain of the Royal Azure, Indigo’s father, and one of the most respected members of Lady Ironspire’s court.
Alezander
Alezander
Alezander is a squadron leader in the Azure, one of Kodalt’s mentees, and a childhood friend of Indigo.
Grilda
Grilda
Grilda is an Academy candidate who is competing for an opportunity to serve on the Azure. One of the few elves not exiled from the city, she secured her spot in the Academy by giving up her Elven birthright and swearing allegiance to Lady Ironspire.
Feigh & Feeona
Feigh and Feeona
Feigh and Feeona, are twin sisters, who work in the Palace of Order. While, their main function is to serve as the palace maids, they also double as nurses and seamstresses. When Birk and Ravenshire became too much for Edi and Pan in their younger years, the twins often stepped in to help with childcare duties, and have a strong affection for the boys.
Hawthorne & Warrington
Hawthorne and Warrington
Members of the Royal Guardians of Balincia, they work closely with Talbot in running security for the Palace of Order. Rambunctious and rowdy, they love to pick on Ravenshire, the youngest of the Guardians.
Jacquelyne
Jacquelyne
Jacquelyne is the Palace of Order’s head of staff and runs a tight ship to meet Edi’s high standards. She typically oversees day-to-day operations, including menus, palace visitors, staff responsibilities, and the exquisite decor of the palace, while also filling in as hostess, when Edi is not available.
Rockwell
Rockwell
Rockwell is Balincia’s prime jeweler and mining township leader. Shorter and older than most of the leaders, he holds a special place in Edi’s heart due to his generous gifts of diamond accessories.
Toliver
Toliver
Toliver is the oldest member of Edi’s staff, and the only one she trusts in her gardens. He may be slow, but his meticulous eye, delicate touch, and talent with orchids is unmatched.
Roux & Moreau
Roux & Moreau
Roux, the diminutive sous-chef, and Moreau, the Palace’s baker, help make-up Edi’s kitchen staff, led by Saffrona, Balincia’s culinary master. One of the happiest, and most popular places in the palace, the chefs not only entertain all the palace visitors, but they also keep their fellow staff members well fed.
Wallingford
Wallingford
Tall and gangly, Wallingford, serves as the Township Leader for the Isle of Wheat, and its adjacent flour mills. An introvert, he is often overlooked in council sessions.
