Significant Landmarks
Capital City: The largest of the islands stands out as one of the only two islands lacking a traditional township. Its sole permanent inhabitants are the Innkeepers, their staff, a healer, a falconer, and four guardians entrusted by the witches. Capital City is the land’s central trade, celebra-tion, and entertainment hub. Due to its distance, most citizens required more than a day’s journey to reach the city.
To accommodate travelers, the inn stretches across the entirety of the island’s northern coast, featuring two grand halls, a kitchen, stables, and enchanted sleeping chambers that multiply and expand based on the number of guests. A circular cobblestoned entrance paves the way for inn lodgers to explore the lantern-lit streets of the town square. Adjacent to the square lies an open market, where visiting townships utilize vacant storefronts to offer their goods and services.
Beyond the town’s boundaries, picturesque gardens and pathways adorn the white beaches, providing a romantic ambiance for couples matched together for courting. At the heart of the town, a large fountain pays tribute to the witches, surrounded by a descending outdoor amphi-theater where crowds gather to watch the performances of the Story-teller and other visiting artisans.
Crystaline Lake: Fed by the pristine waters cascading down from the Cosimo Mountains, the lake is a vital lifeline for Balincians. Citizens de-pend on the lake for freshwater and as a thoroughfare for travel between the islands and border townships that make their homes. Its crystal-clear waters harbor a rich ecosystem of aquatic life, sustaining the livelihoods of fishermen and traders who ply its depths.
Cosimo Mountains: A range of colossal, snow-capped peaks that dom-inate the landscape, these ancient mountains encircle Balincia, cradling the land within their protective embrace. Their imposing stature not only bestows a sense of awe but also plays a crucial role in shaping and preserving Balincia’s unique climate and ecosystem. Rising so high and running so deep, no paths are able to traverse these formidable slopes.
Dense Forest: At the base of the towering Cosimo Mountains, the Dense Forest blankets the northern and eastern borders of Balincia. Revered by the Lumbermen for its abundant resources, the forest provides a sustain-able bounty of timber while offering prime grounds for hunting amidst its regenerative groves. Despite explorations of its citizens, the forest ap-pears unending, its depths unfathomable as it endlessly skirts the base of the mountains. Home to a diverse array of wildlife, including bears, stags, tusked wild boars, and wolves, the forest teems with beauty and danger.
Faerie Mines: The mines are a maze of endless caverns buried deep within the caves and foothills of the southern border. Each chamber boasts a unique trove of resources, rich with a dazzling array of pre-cious stones, jewels, and minerals essential for the forges and artisans of Balincia. Mirroring the cyclical regeneration of the bounty of the forest and lake, the mines continue to renew in abundance to meet the ever- growing demands of the land.
Border Townships
The Fisher’s village lies on the western border with a broad, shallow aquamarine coastline. Freshwater manta rays the size of boats glide the waters with the fishermen, trained to help them cast nets through and around the bedrock coastal caves. Dragon fruit, bananas, papayas, and oranges grow in abundance in the green jungles beyond the coast under the watchful eyes of puffed-belly parrots. The Fisher Township plays a crucial role in export and import transportation and are masters of ship-building and rope weaving.
The Farmer’s village occupies the eastern border, surrounded by lush emerald hill country. The land in this region is fertile and allows for the harvesting of potatoes, root vegetables, greens, and gourds. Downy cat-tle are raised for meat and milk here, roaming the hillside along sheep and lunar horses. Eastern citizens are known for their husbandry, mas-tery of irrigation, leather tanning, and textiles, providing the land with most of its blankets, rugs, and trade for the tailors.
To the north is the dense forest where Balincia’s lumber is procured and fashioned into furniture, barrels, bowls, and fuel for cooking and winter nights. Wood pulp is created at the sawmill to help with insulation and make paper for the witch’s books and scrolls. Three tusked boars and wild elk herds populate the forest where Huntsmen are trained.
The lake’s southern border is settled by the mining township that ministers the faerie caverns. An abundance of obsidian, gold, diamonds, coal, and sapphires fill the mines, providing full-time work for jewelers and ornate furniture designers for the sisters. To the left of the mines are the Iron Hills, which supply the blacksmiths with all they need to forge steel, craft hulls for ships, build surgical instruments for the healers, and make cutlery for the people.
Island Townships
The islands, though smaller, focus on niche but essential trades, with townships built up around them. There is an island dedicated to bee-keepers who curate Balincia’s dark golden floral honey and another that farms lavender moon moths for their silk. One island is committed to only growing wheat and is connected to a smaller island by a floating bridge that houses the flour mill. The loudest isle is the township of Poultry, which tends to have hundreds of free-roaming chickens and roosters, crowing relentlessly at the rise of each of the three suns.
Everglenn
Tucked away within the serene expanse of the Great Protector’s Valley, Everglenn flourishes as a haven, a village steeped in faith, simplicity, and reverence for the land. Filled with stone cottages, sheep farms, and sturdy stables, this idyllic settlement was conceived as a welcoming sanctuary for migrants, nomads, and travelers seeking respite and peace. Influenced by the Church of the Great Protector, most citizens are dedicated to the prin-ciples of life taught by Farren, one of the Original Thirteen. Protected by runes and buried standing stones, the village is considered a sacred land.
